Power of attorney

Power of attorney

Power of attorney and lasting power of attorney

Probably the most common document a notary public deals with is a power of attorney.

This document is used in order to appoint someone to act on your behalf in a legal matter outside of the United Kingdom. The person appointed, the attorney, does not necessarily have to be a lawyer; it could easily be a friend or a member of your family.

Lasting power of attorney

A lasting power of attorney is a document that enables you to appoint someone to make decisions on your behalf and is usually used when a person is unable to make decisions for themselves.

If you find yourself, or someone you know, in this situation, take advice as soon as possible.
